Some impressions of Wailua River State Park (Kauai’s State Parks) where we took some pics before we proceeded to our B&B at Kapa’a.

Thanks to @shane who showed me TiltShift Generator for iPad
From April 24 until April 30, 2010 we stayed at Lokelani Garden Cottage on Kaua’i. It is a lovely B&B accommodation with a lot of plants and trees in the garden. We only had a five minutes walk to a trail on to the top of the Sleeping Giant. The trail itself took us approx. 45 minutes to go up.
We would give that accommodation five out of five stars. Truely, we loved it!
I took this Aloha Friday Photo on April 24, 2010 at Lokelani Garden Cottage on Kaua’i. Every now and then one of those guests suddenly appeared and then disappeared some moments later on the Lanai or in the rooms. We liked those guests :-)
Does anybody know the title of this kind of lizards?
If you have a picture of Hawaii that you would like me to post it on my two blogs just email me: frank.hamm@injelea.de
Preview of upcoming Waimea Canyon photo set on Flickr.
On April 25, 2010 we not only were on the beautiful garden island of Kaua’i but also enjoyed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”: Waimea Canyon. Although many people think that this attribute origins from Mark Twain it’s obvious he couldn’t have said this: Mark Twain never had been to Kauai’i.
But we’ve been there two times so far. We don’t know the saying’s origin but it’s true!
So stay tuned as we will publish a photo set of that wonderful landscape on Flickr this weekend.
On April 26, 2010 we went to Wailua River State Park. It took us only some 30 minutes to go by car from our Lokelani Garden Cottage to the place where Wailua River flows into the ocean. We even stopped at the Heiau. I forgot to take pics of the Heiau but I took some of the ‘Opaeka‘a Falls.
They shot “Outbreak” with Dustin Hoffman partly on Kaua’i and you can even see some locations like that village that was supposed to be in Zaire.
You can rent kayaks (i.e. Kayak Wailua, Wailua Kayak Adventures) to paddle on the Wailua River. We wanted to make that later on the Hanalei River - but it rained on that day :-)
Sometimes we enjoy to lean back and behave like bloody tourists :-) so we did Smith’s Fern Grotto Tour. They do some Ukulele and some Hula on the boat and on the platform where you can see the Grotto. It was okay especially because the boat hat only few tourists :-)
Fern Grotto is a fern covered, lava rock grotto located on the Wailua River on the eastern side of Kauai in the Hawaiian archipelago. It forms a natural amphitheater which greatly increases the acoustics of the many bands that are hired to perform live music, which has traditional themes. Several boat companies give river tours which lead to the grotto. On April 24, 2006, the Grotto was closed by the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources for safety reasons. Heavy rains in March, 2006, caused a number of rocks and boulders to fall from the ceiling of the Grotto onto the viewing area below. The closure was expected to last three weeks. Access to the Grotto is by boat on the Wailua River as part of the Wailua River State Park. Tour boats ply the waters of the park and the Grotto has long been a popular stop on the tour.
The Grotto is still closed and you can only have a look at it from the wooden platform they build. The tour was relaxing and those Smith’s guys were very friendly so we had a pleasant time.

On April 26, 2010 we went to the farmers’ market at Kukui Grove Center, Lihue. The market ain’t a very big one but you get a lot of local ono stuff - and there are almost locals only :-)
If you want to go to a farmers’ market in Hawaii - and you should do that at least once in a week - you may download some of the PDF files the Hawaii Department of Agriculture offers on their Farmers’ Market Listing.

It was so amazing for us to see many shops or shopping centers had their presence on Twitter or Facebook advertised like Kukui Grove Center - we’re not used to see that in Germany (yet)
If not: Put it on your list! Kaua’ is so a wonderful island with so many places that are calm and exciting as well. Like Hanalei. It’s a village north shore of Kaua’i with one of the World’s best beach.
So thats the complete photo set
