try my best to live sustainably and help others to do the same. I believe we can all do more to reduce our footprints on the Earth and leave it in better condition for our descendants. A native of Arkansas who transplanted to the Midwest, I now live in Hawaii with my wife and baby boy. My lifelong goal is to live and work in space as an astronaut. I was an applicant for NASA’s 2009 astronaut class and made it to the “Highly Qualified” stage (top 3-13%) before being cut during the selection process. In March 2010, the Maui Visitors Bureau made a bold decision to invite a new media team (aka bloggers and podcasters; meet them here) to join their traditional spring press trip. This blog is the starting point for those activities and is Maui nui’s way of engaging in a more casual and personal conversation about what it is like to visit Maui. Whether you are a kamaʻāina (resident) or a malihini (visitor), we welcome you to add your comments and connect with us across the web.
The new media team will be posting articles, audio and video episodes, photos, Facebook updates, Twitter messages, and live streaming throughout the week – all of which will live on after the trip has ended. So if you miss us in real time, no problem!
