Tori Hulali Canha is the winner of this year’s wahine (women) hula competition of the Merrie Monarch Festival. We were especially impressed by her kahiko performance.
First comes her oli (spoken chant) and at approx. 3 minutes she begins with her hula.
More information about the competition including a list of all winners is available on staradvertiser.com: “Reichel takes Miss Aloha Hula for second time”. Tori Hulali Canha is member of the Halau Ke‘alaokamaile (school) of kumu hula (hula teacher) Keali‘i Reichel. (“popular and bestselling singer, songwriter, choreographer, dancer, chanter, scholar, teacher, and personality from the State of Hawaiʻi”)
You may watch the two remaining competitions on Friday and Saturday evening (6:00 pm HST / 6:00 am CEST on the next day morning) as live streaming from KFVE The Home Team website - just as we will :-)
