”Frank Kemsley was my grandfather. He was born in 1893 and died in 1967, living all of his life in Picton, Ontario, with the exception of World War I when he served abroad, mostly in France. In October 2010, when cleaning out papers at my mother’s home, I discovered the journals that he wrote during the war: tiny leather-bound books that could be carried in his pocket wherever he went. The daily entries begin on November 16, 1916 when he joined up, and end on May 9, 1919 with his return home. This blog recreates his journal on a daily basis, starting on November 16th, 2010.
